Notes:

The Burdah of al-Būṣīrī is the halmark of the Islamic literary tradition. The core of the Burdah is an appreciation and praise of the Prophet Muḥammad, and an expression of deep spiritual love, attachment, and devotion of him as central to the Islamic ethos. Al-Būṣīrī, the great Muslim lover, recounts passionately the attributes of his beloved Prophet including a concise summary of his life. The Burdah is sung throughout the Muslim world in each location, including Indonesia, based upon different cultural contexts and artistic styles, yet in unity in strong love for the Prophet.

In the Malay world, this work has been anonymously rewritten with an interlinear Malay translation at the beginning of the 17th century (Ronkel 1896: 1-53).
